Solaia is the culmination of the Antinori family’s six centuries of winemaking history and is created at the birthplace of the Super Tuscan movement Tenuta di Tignanello, in the heart of the Chianti Classico region. It is so named as it comes from the sunniest part of the Tignanello hillside on a stony soil of “alberese” limestone and “galestro” clay where year after year, grapes of the highest quality are produced. For the inaugural 1978 vintage the wine was a Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc blend, however since 1980, it has contained 20% Sangiovese. It is without doubt one of the most collectible wines in Italy, if not the world.
