This modern winery was founded in 1999 by Mariano García who was previously winemaker for thirty years at Vega Sicilia and Javier Zaccagnini the former head of Spain’s Consejo Regulador, with a sole aim of crafting world-class Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero. Aalto manage and farm 200 separate plots over 130 hectares throughout the provinces of Valladolid and Burgos, 110 of which range from 40 to 100 years old. This diversity of terroir provides unrivalled complexity which, when combined with power and purity of fruit, lead to a full throated expression of the contemporary Ribera del Duero style. The principal wine Aalto, is matured in 30-70% new oak with the remainder in second and third fill barrels, whilst a small selection of fruit from the best performing sites is bottled separately as the highly acclaimed Aalto PS. We offer a magnum of the top wine from the great 2016 harvest.
